Singer along with the Berlin-based agency 'Culture Management Berlin' created a database of Singer sewing machine world productions in 2000 and 5 years later the list was finally finished and published in 2005. This database is the first and only complete database of Singer sewing machines productions in the world.

There is no other list! Copyrights are owned by the Berlin-based agency 'Culture Management Berlin'. A joint licensing agreement for offering this entire database on the Internet, print media is only between the Culture Management Berlin Germany and the Singer Corporation NV USA.

Licenses can be purchased only through the agency 'Culture Management Berlin'. You can use the lists for private use. Commercial use is prohibited. The only production records from the Anderson factory is in 1951 when a limited edition of only 10,000 Singer Model 301 sewing machines were manufactured for the Centennial Year Celebration. There are absolutely no production records from 1952 to 1963. It is therefore my goal to establish a database of serial numbers for the above models and create an accurate Year of Issue, which is the year of manufacture or year your sewing machine was actually made.

Singer - Machine Serial Numbers Up to March 1996 you could call Singer Customer Service with your serial number and they would give you a 'Birth-Date' of 29 May 1951 for models 301, 301A, 401A and 403A. Strangely, it included all 'NA' and 'NB' serial numbers regardless of model number.

From April 1996 to 2005 Singer Customer Service used the Sewing Machine Blue Book dates of 1953-1959 for all 'NA' and 'NB' serial numbers. From 2005 to present-day, Singer again changed the dating of serial numbers to a new 'Year of Issue' with NA-1951, NB-1956 and NC-1961. You can look at the Machine Serial Numbers: Two Letter Prefix, Note: For all other models from 2005-2011 Singer used the 'Culture Management Berlin' list. This still seemed to confuse owners because it would show the allotted quantity and allotted date for each model. What owners did not understand was that it was only the allotted date and not the date their sewing machine was made. It could take as much as 2 to 3 months and sometimes longer before the allotted quantity was actual made.

Because of this confusion and in the best interest to owners Singer in 2011 deleted all the records and changed it to the present-day 'Year of Issue', the same way as all slant-needle models since 2005. There is no Singer Vintage sewing machine that has an actual date that it was made, only allotted. For Singer's 160th Year Anniversary they launched a new Website On August 12, 2011 Singer launched that offers a facility for consumers to uncover the history of their personal Singer household sewing machine and discover the year it was issued. Singer will issue an acknowledgement certificate that you can print out with your name, serial number and year of issue for all Singer model sewing machines. If the owner of any Slant-needle model sewing machine inputs their Serial Number they will receive a.pdf certificate, but guess what?

If you have a 'NA' serial number it will have a 'Year of Issue of 1951'. If you have a 'NB' serial number it will have a 'Year of Issue of 1956'.

If you have a 'NC' serial number it will have a 'Year of Issue of 1961'. What this tells us is 1 million 'NA' serial numbered sewing machines were manufactured in 1951, 1 million 'NB' serial numbered sewing machine were manufactured in 1956 and 1 million 'NB' serial numbered sewing machine were manufactured in 1961. This is simply not true! They were allotted in those years and only a selected few slant-needle models were actually made in those years.

Anderson, South Carolina Singer had one United States manufacturing factory, Elizabethport, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. All sewing machines manufactured their never had a suffix after the model number. After 1900 all models manufactured overseas now included a suffix after the model number to denote the place of manufacture.

Example would be a 222K, manufactured in Kilbowie, Scotland. Singer opened the Anderson, South Carolina plant to manufacture the new slant model sewing machines, i.e., 301, 301A, 401A, 403A, 500A and 503A.

When the Anderson factory started manufacturing the Singer 301 it did not include any suffix on the Model Tag. This created confusion to where the 301 was actually manufactured and beginning in January 1953 the Model Tag Number now included the suffix 'A' to denote it was manufactured at the Anderson, South Carolina, hence the Singer 301A. After the last Singer Model 503A sewing machine was manufactured in 1963 the Anderson plant stayed open for many years with 3 manufacturing lines: Sewing Machines, Floor-care products (vacuum cleaners) and Power Tools. The 'Athena' electronic sewing machine was also made at Anderson.

In August 1988 Singer completed the sale of its two South Carolina plants, Pickens and Anderson factories, which had about 2,500 employees total, to Ryobi Limited of Japan. (Ryobi Corporation) This was several years after the Elizabethport factory located in Elizabeth, New Jersey closed down on 1 December 1982. The myth about the 301 being made in Elizabeth, N.J., is simply not true! The myth about the Anderson factory closing down in 1959, is simply not true! The myth about the 'A' added because the Anderson factory burned down, is simply not true! Submitting your Serial Numbers When it comes to figuring out a correct 'Year of Issue' for all slant-needle models there was only one way.

Gathering information and by acquiring serial numbers to create a database for each model. The database includes, model, color, serial number, original purchase receipts, instruction manual copyright date and revised dates plus other information that is relevant. With this information I was able to create a 'Year of Issue'.

This lets us know that the Singer 301/301A has a complete sequence of serial numbers.
